French Protestant in the 16th century;the term referred mainly to Calvinists. Persecuted under Francis I and Henry II, the Huguenots survived both an attempt to exterminate them (the Massacre of noun[French,properly a dim. of Hugues. The name is probably derived from the Chritian (Huguenot) of some person conspicuous as a reformer.] A French Protestsnt of the period of the relihious wars in France in 16th century.

II…HUGUENOT

From the 16th to the 18th century the name ‘Huguenot’ was applied to a member of the Protestant Reformed Church of France, historically known as the French Calvinists.

III…HUGUENOT

French protestants who were reluctantly tolerateda after the Edict of Nntes in 1598 which gave them religious freedom until the Edict was revoked by Louis XIV in 1685. The revocation caused a flood os exiles to the British Isles,the Low countries,the Baltic States and Russia.
